Athletes for Charity's Cathleen Laporte stopped in to deliver holiday gifts to the little tikes and toddlers of the Mother Hale Learning Center in Harlem, NY. The children who ranged from the age of 3 months old to 4 years old enjoyed gifts which included Leap Frog learning toys, musical reading books and Dora the Explorer book packs for the older tots.
The first years of a child’s life are critical to future success. High-quality early childhood education promotes intellectual, physical, social, emotional and language development, and prepares children for school by building a foundation for later academic and social competence. The Mother Hale Learning Center opened its doors in February 2006 with a mission to continue the legacy of service initiated over 60 years ago by Mother Clara Hale, by providing affordable, innovative, educational programs to as many as 38 children. The Mother Hale Learning Center is one of only a few educational programs in Harlem that serves infants, toddlers and preschoolers. Emily Maldonado, who was recruited from CitiGroup's children center, serves as the Director of the Learning Center.
"I am amazed at the state of the art facility as well as the current educational structure being implemented at the Mother Hale Learning Center" states Cathleen. "Their curriculum leaves no child behind as it focuses on the learning skills of children from only a few months old up to 3-4 years old" adds Cathleen. "Additionally impressive is the fact that the Center also provides parent seminars, a resource library and referrals to any additional services. No wonder their waiting list is in the hundreds." |
